Global health experts are today are calling for the removal of restrictions preventing people who use drugs from accessing new hepatitis C cures. So long as these restrictions exist, the goal of disease elimination will remain out of reach, they say.
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is working with thousands of national partners, sponsors and corporate teams to fund lifesaving research and support for people battling cancer through the Light The Night Walk. Together with LLS, the Light The Night National Corporate Partner Teams are raising awareness and making a positive impact on the lives of patients today, literally, by taking steps to save lives.
Psoriasis is a common inflammatory skin disease, and if severe, has been demonstrated to be a risk factor for cardiovascular (CV) disease. However, the degree to which psoriasis is associated with major adverse cardiac events (MACE), such as heart attack, stroke, and cardiovascular death has not been defined. Now, new research from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine has revealed an increased incidence of MACE in patients with severe psoriasis.
Lawmakers are focusing on different aspects of Medicare policies as Democrats point to Medicare rebates to woo senior citizens and some Republicans are expressing opposition to a targeted Medicare payment provision related to California physicians and included in the Senate's tax extender bill.
Nature News reports on an immunization campaign kicking off in Africa in December that will offer protection to some areas of Africa's meningitis belt. Millions will receive a new vaccine, MenAfriVac, that promises protection against the meningococcal bacterium Neisseria meningitides, the news service writes, noting the effort is the culmination of ten years' work by an international consortium to develop a vaccine at a price low enough for massive use in Africa: just US$0.40 a dose.
