Responding to increased demand for technology to help prevent potentially fatal catheter-related bloodstream infections (CRBSIs), Cook Medical has expanded its Spectrum Turbo-Ject line of antibiotic impregnated peripherally inserted central venous catheters (PICCs) to treat a wider range of patient needs. For the first time, the clinical benefits of minocycline and rifampin-impregnated PICCs, a critical component in eliminating 250,000 potentially fatal CRBSIs in the U.S. annually, are now available in 3 French single and 6 French triple lumen sizes.
Concerns have been raised about the AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson vaccines regarding very rare but potentially fatal side effects related to low blood platelet counts and blood clots. Recently, reports also emerged that the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine may cause a rare yet serious side effect: heart inflammation.
A study to be published in the February 2016 issue of the Journal of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry reports that adolescents chronically victimized during at least two school years, are about five times more at risk of thinking about suicide and 6 times more at risk of attempting suicide at 15 years compared to those who were never victimized.
pSivida Corp., a leader in the development of sustained release drug delivery products for the treatment of back-of-the-eye disease including the product candidate Iluvien™ for the treatment of Diabetic Macular Edema, today announced that it has been awarded two grants totaling $489,000 under the IRS Qualifying Therapeutic Discovery Project (QTDP).
