World Heart Corporation, a developer of mechanical circulatory systems, announced today that it has completed its previously announced private placement of common stock and warrants to purchase common stock. Gross proceeds from the offering were approximately $7.3 million. Proceeds from the private placement are expected to be used for general corporate and working capital purposes.
The Financial Times' Andrew Jack analyzes the debate over different approaches to family planning worldwide. According to Jack, there is a "growing worry that some developing countries have failed to follow the broader 'demographic transition' to lower fertility levels that has occurred in past decades in the western world and more recently across Latin America and much of Asia.
The acquisition of Unetixs Vascular's detection and diagnostics products complements and strengthens the existing Opto Circuits (I) Ltd. product portfolio investment in Criticare Systems, Inc.'s vital signs monitoring line and pulse oximetry sensors. Under a new proposal Western Australia could become the first state in Australia to introduce ‘opt-out' organ donor laws. At present people need to opt in to be a part of national organ donor register. However, only 16 per cent of West Australians have signed to date. Under this proposal all West Australians will automatically donate their organs after they die unless they register their objection.
The March of Dimes, along with its partners, are giving experts in the field of preterm birth prevention an opportunity to learn from each other and to work together to bring the nation's preterm birth rate under 10 percent and give more babies a healthy start.
