A new report from the American Psychiatric Association (APA) and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, which is published by Elsevier in the September-October 2009 issue of General Hospital Psychiatry (http://journals.elsevierhealth.com/periodicals/ghp/home), explores the management of pregnancy and depression.
In a recent study published in the journal Clinical Infectious Diseases, scientists from New York City, Baltimore, Seattle, and San Diego called for an immediate public health intervention to treat young injection drug users infected with the hepatitis C virus (HCV).
Unlike so many other deadly viruses, HIV still lacks a vaccine. The virus-which continues to infect millions around the world-has proven especially tricky to prevent with conventional antibodies, in part because it evolves so rapidly in the body.
The role of one of our genes which protects us from cancer but could also cause us to age will be explained in a lecture at the University of Leicester.
UC San Francisco researchers received five awards announced this week by the National Institutes of Health for high-risk, high-reward scientific research projects. Their work will focus on novel approaches for diagnosing and treating diseases ranging from autoimmune and chronic inflammatory diseases, to cancer, diabetes and neurological disorders.
