Hearing loss is one of the most common birth defects, with more than 12,000 children in the United States affected each year. Three students in Wichita State University's biomedical engineering program recognized this issue and designed their senior project to create a therapeutic toy to provide early intervention therapy for children with auditory disabilities.

The results for the fifth year of the European Research Council's funding programs show that LMU was again among the most successful competitors. Ten LMU researchers were awarded prestigious ERC grants, each worth around 2 million euros. Six of them received Advanced Investigator Grants and Starting Grants went to four others. The total amount of ERC funding acquired by applicants from LMU last year was approximately 19.5 million euros.
Sexsomnia was reported by almost eight percent of patients at a sleep disorders center and was more common in men than women, according to a research abstract that will be presented Monday, June 7, 2010, in San Antonio, Texas, at SLEEP 2010, the 24th annual meeting of the Associated Professional Sleep Societies LLC.
A research group from Kumamoto University, Japan analyzed the pathophysiology of myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS), a blood cancer that presents often in the elderly, and found the presence of the transcription factor RUNX3, thereby revealing a cancer growth function for what had been considered a tumor suppressor.
