The causes of cerebral palsy have long been debated and often are attributed to in utero infections, premature birth, or brain injury to the baby near or during delivery, usually from a lack of oxygen. But many young children diagnosed with cerebral palsy have not experienced such events.
A new nationwide study of more than 50,000 individuals is underway to determine factors that predict disease severity and long-term health impacts of COVID-19.
Several years ago researchers at Michigan State University (MSU) reported discovering a novel, evolutionary trait in a long-studied population of Escherichia coli, a rod-shaped bacterium commonly found in the lower intestine of mammals. The E. coli added a helping of citrate to its traditional diet of glucose, even though other E. coli can't consume citrate in the presence of oxygen.
On January 22, the Potomac Institute for Policy Studies will present a guest lecture by Don DuRousseau, founder and CEO of Human Bionics LLC, a neurotechnology company specializing in brain-computer interface (BCI) systems. Mr. DuRousseau will explore the use of neurotechnology techniques, including the increasingly popular neurofeedback, as a treatment for ADD/ADHD.
Dementia is one of the most debilitating consequences of Parkinson's disease, a progressive neurological condition characterized by tremors, stiffness, slow movement and impaired balance.
