Researchers at Rush University Medical Center have been selected to participate in a collaborative initiative to develop a simple, affordable and rapid test to measure the immune systems of people infected with HIV/AIDS in developing countries.
Gout has been described by the Daily Mail as something, "usually associated with port-swilling, over-fed elderly men of the 19th century". (1) Recent research carried out at the Boston University School of Medicine, however, has found that the incidence of gout in the US is on the rise. (2) Thus, the condition is clearly not something that only affects this stereotype.
Retinoblastoma is a tumor of the retina that generally affects children under 5 years of age and accounts for approximately 4% of childhood cancers. If not diagnosed early, retinoblastoma may result in loss of one or both eyes and can be fatal.
A new genetic test targeting the most common types of muscular dystrophy-those caused by mutations in the dystrophin gene-is far quicker with greater accuracy and sensitivity than existing tests.
Three certification examinations of the American Board for Transplant Certification (ABTC) are now accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies.
