At the beginning of 2010, the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Department at the Center for Psychosocial Medicine at Heidelberg University Hospital will conduct a study named "Saving and Empowering Young Lives in Europe (SEYLE) - promoting the health of young people through the prevention of risk-taking and self-destructive behavior" in cooperation with twelve centers in other EU countries and Israel.
A laboratory study conducted at Leiden University Medical Center in the Netherlands has found that immunotherapy can be efficiently combined with photodynamic therapy (PDT) to eradicate established tumors. The approach results in strong local tumor destruction and a robust systemic immune response against the disease.
Researchers have demonstrated a new, effective way to precisely identify and localize prostate cancer tumors while protecting healthy tissue and reducing side effects.
New early data showed that an investigational device that specifically targets rapidly growing cancer cells with intermediate frequency electrical fields - called Tumor-Treating Fields (TTFields) - more than doubled the median overall survival rates in patients with recurrent glioblastoma multiforme (GBM), the most common and aggressive type of malignant brain tumor.
