It is 30 years since the beginning of the AIDS epidemic. It was fatal then but has now become a treatable, if still incurable, chronic illness. The Minister for Health and Ageing, Tony Abbott announced that Australian researchers now have the opportunity to access A$70 million in international research funding each year and to lead international research teams as part of the Human Frontier Science Program.
UC Irvine Health urologists and health policy experts report in a new study that two written assessments that identify existing comorbidities - the patient-reported Total Illness Burden Index for Prostate Cancer (TIBI-Cap) and the physician-reported Charlson Comorbidity Index - can successfully target prostate patients who would not benefit from biopsy to discover possible cancer.
About three-quarters of U.S. workers, or 108 million people, are in jobs that cannot be done from home during a pandemic, putting these workers at increased risk of exposure to disease.
