BioPontis Alliance, LLC announced today that it has entered into an innovative strategic agreement with Merck (known outside the US and Canada as MSD) designed to bridge the gap between early academic discovery science and the development of medicines and technologies that impact human health. The announcement was made this week at the prestigious Partnering For Cures Conference that is convened annually for the purpose of forging strategic cross-sector collaborations.
Participants are being enrolled in the first clinical trial that tests the use of retinal progenitor cells to treat retinitis pigmentosa, reported project director Dr. Henry Klassen of UCI's Gavin Herbert Eye Institute and Sue & Bill Gross Stem Cell Research Center. The product of stem cell research at UCI, these retinal progenitors are similar to stem cells in terms of potential regenerative properties, but they're specific to the retina.
Lifestyle-related cancers, such as lung, colorectal, and skin cancers, have increased globally over the past decade, according to the most comprehensive analysis of cancer-related health outcomes and patterns ever conducted.
Scientists funded by the National Institutes of Health have developed a new assay to accurately and easily count the cells that comprise the HIV reservoir, the stubborn obstacle to an HIV cure.
APWU Health Plan along with UnitedHealthcare created calendars to educate and motivate postal and federal employees to live life well. The calendar included tips on staying healthy, an exercise log and various links to sites of interest.
