Survivors of sepsis-a life-threatening response to an infection-have expressed a need for advocacy and follow-up support, according to a study authored by professors at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis, and published in Dimensions of Critical Care Nursing.
The American Heart Association wants families to feel they can, and are fully equipped to, make healthy choices in the home and within their everyday activities - without throwing schedules completely off or leaving wallets empty.
Hospira, Inc., a leading provider of clinical information and medication delivery technologies, today announced a study showing how the TheraDoc clinical surveillance system helped clinicians at Memorial Hospital Miramar reduce catheter-related infections, which correlated with an increase in infection-control interventions.
A newly-developed mathematical method can detect geometric structure in neural activity in the brain. "Previously, in order to understand this structure, scientists needed to relate neural activity to some specific external stimulus," said Vladimir Itskov, associate professor of mathematics at Penn State University.
Tuberculosis is the leading infectious killer in the world, far above AIDS. It kills about 1.6 million of the 10 million it affects every year. About 30,000 patients worldwide now have XDR tuberculosis (that fails to respond to any of the four antibiotic categories in use at present).
