Singer Louise Redknapp talks exclusively to the NHS about her fears that a fertility-threatening disease could threaten her plans for a family in a consumer-style magazine published today. Louise was diagnosed with endometriosis, a disease in which small pieces of the womb lining grow outside the womb, causing chronic pain and, in many cases, depression and fertility problems.
The Elsevier Foundation has announced the 2010 recipients of grants under its Innovative Libraries in Developing Countries program, committing over $300,000 to support the work of libraries in developing countries. The 2010 grant recipients were selected from 260 proposals worldwide for their innovation and potential for impact in the developing world. The Innovative Libraries program supports capacity-building projects in the science, technology and medicine library training, education, infrastructure, digitization and the preservation of information.
In the Center for Strategic & International Studies' "Smart Global Health" blog, Phillip Nieburg, senior associate of the CSIS Global Health Policy Center, discusses a recent report he wrote, titled "Improving Maternal Mortality and Other Aspects of Women's Health: The United States' Global Role," "that addresses key challenges to improving maternal mortality and women's health worldwide and talks about what the related priorities of U.S. foreign policy should be."
