Twenty-five to 35 percent of adolescents in Germany have intentionally inflicted injuries to themselves at least once in their lives—some self-injure on a regular basis.
While many young adults will share the details of their daily lives with friends on Facebook, communicating with their doctors about mental illness is another story. E-SMART-MH, developed at Case Western Reserve University, might improve those communications.
Child psychiatrist Matthew Biel, MD, MSc, wasn't at all surprised to learn from news reports in early July that two children separated at the US border from their Central American parents and sent to Connecticut were diagnosed, by a Yale University psychiatrist, with "full blown acute post traumatic stress disorder."
A new study conducted by researchers in the Cardiac and Vascular Institute at NYU Langone Medical Center, found using beta-blockers, the standard of care for patients with coronary artery disease (CAD), was not associated with a lower risk of heart attacks, death and strokes in patients suffering from CAD and those with risk factors for the disease, including those with a history of heart attack.
A new study of sexually active older women has found that sexual satisfaction in women increases with age and those not engaging in sex are satisfied with their sex lives. A majority of study participants report frequent arousal and orgasm that continue into old age, despite low sexual desire.
