The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases recently awarded Jonathan Wall, PhD, professor in the University of Tennessee Health Science Center's Graduate School of Medicine in Knoxville, a $1.79 million grant for his study titled "Developing a Theranostic Immunotherapy for Systemic Amyloidosis."
A new study on the relationship between nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and heart disease found that patients with an elevated level of the enzyme associated with NAFLD had an increased risk of coronary heart disease, which appears to be related to insulin resistance, obesity and central fat distribution.
SciDev.Net examines a recent conference in Cape Town, South Africa, where almost "300 researchers and health policymakers from across the continent" came together and approved a 2010-2015 business plan for the the African Network for Drugs and Diagnosis Innovation (ANDI).
