A team of scientists from The Scripps Research Institute has found that a specific stress hormone, the corticotropin-releasing factor (CRF), is key to the development and maintenance of alcohol dependence in animal models.
With a $4.6 million grant from the National Institutes of Health (under the Bioengineering Research Partnership program), research led by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute will make its important final steps toward the development of a safer, synthetic alternative to current heparin. The researchers believe that kilogram quantities of the new drug could be developed in under five years.
As part of its ongoing effort to make higher education more affordable, Capella University, a regionally accredited online university* that has built its reputation by providing high quality online degree programs for working adults, is offering a $2,500 grant opportunity for new nursing students who enroll in eligible Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN), or Doctorate of Nursing (DNP) programs.
Even with regular physical activity, older women (ages 50-79) who spend more waking hours in sedentary behaviors, such as sitting or lying down, have an increased risk of heart failure serious enough to require hospitalization, according to new research published today in Circulation: Heart Failure, an American Heart Association journal.
