Mayo Clinic announced today that it has received a five-year, $11 million grant from the National Cancer Institute to study survivorship in patients with non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL). The Lymphoma Epidemiology of Outcomes Cohort Study will enroll 12,000 patients with NHL. The study will follow these patients for long-term prognosis and survivorship.
In the third post in a series by Marie Stopes International published on the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation's "Impatient Optimists" blog, Mukanga Sindazi, the outreach team leader with Marie Stopes in Zambia, discusses his work traveling through the rural Central Province to educate women and men about family planning and provide modern contraceptives.
Cardiovascular disease specialists at Florida Hospital Pepin Heart Institute and Dr. Kiran C. Patel Research Institute affiliated with the University of South Florida announced they have enrolled their first patients into a clinical trial testing a novel gene therapy for the treatment of heart failure after ischemic injury. The therapy may promote the regeneration of heart tissue by encouraging the body to deploy more stem cells to the injury site.
To help cancer patients and their families better understand their treatment options before making a decision, the American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology has published seven patient information brochures that explain how radiation therapy is used to safely and effectively treat various cancers.
SAGE Therapeutics, a biopharmaceutical company developing novel medicines to treat life-threatening and rare central nervous system (CNS) disorders, today announced dose initiation of the first patient in a Phase 1/2 clinical trial of SAGE-547, a neuroactive steroid, in super-refractory status epilepticus (SRSE), a critical condition in which the brain is in a state of persistent seizure.
