The American Society for Microbiology (ASM) has launched a clinical microbiology web portal, that focuses all of ASM's clinical and external relevant content into one user-friendly site.
Cell-free fetal DNA testing, which measures the relative amount of free fetal DNA in a pregnant woman's blood, is a new screening test that indicates the risk of Down syndrome (trisomy 21), Edward syndrome (trisomy 18), and Patau syndrome (trisomy 13).
Researchers at the University of Surrey, in collaboration with the Universities of Reading and Cologne, and the Royal Berkshire Hospital, have discovered that it is possible to stop the activation of a group of proteins (NADPH Oxidase) known to cause most of the diseases of ageing.
Scientists at Royal Holloway, University of London have developed a pioneering new method of oral vaccination which could help boost immunity to TB and influenza, as well as prevent C. difficile for which there is currently no vaccine.
