A new survey has discovered the quite astonishing fact that almost half of American adults mistakenly believe that surgery can spread cancer, and more than one in four thinks that a cure for cancer exists but is being kept from the public by a profit-driven health-care industry.
Until December, 2011, UNC Health Care System relied upon a legacy Human Resources system that was not designed for the healthcare industry. And this mismatch created problems that necessitated awkward, albeit creative, workarounds. But now, thanks to CIBER partnering with UNC to implement the Lawson Human Capital Management (HCM) solution, they are responsive and agile, especially in terms of reporting and employee issues.
Could some cases of asthma actually be caused by an allergic reaction to a common environmental bacteria? New research findings published in the Journal of Leukocyte Biology suggests that this idea may not be as far-fetched as it seems. In a research report appearing in the February 2012 print issue, researchers show a link between common environmental bacteria and airway inflammation.
Galapagos NV announced today that it has started a Phase II clinical study for the Company's flagship program GLPG0259, a novel drug being developed for rheumatoid arthritis. In this clinical trial, the safety and efficacy of this novel candidate drug will be tested in RA patients. Galapagos plans to announce interim results by the middle of next year and complete the trial by the end of 2011.
Researchers at Harvard University and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) have discovered that insulin-producing beta cells in the pancreas that are attacked in type 1 diabetes are replenished through duplication of existing cells rather than through differentiation of adult stem cells.
