When Vivian Mushahwar first applied to grad school, she wrote about her idea to fix paralysis by rewiring the spinal cord.
The American Diabetes Association today issued the following statement in response to the passage by the Senate of the "Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act" (S.5), which will accelerate stem cell research by easing existing funding restrictions and supporting research that uses embryonic stem cells, while maintaining strict ethical guidelines.
"This month, President Obama's Feed the Future initiative received a $1 billion pledge from U.S. organizations to address the root causes of hunger and poverty," Rep. Mike Honda (D-Calif.) writes in the Huffington Post's "Politics" blog, noting, "This pledge came on the heels of a $4 billion pledge by more than 60 companies from Africa and other continents."
Christina Wang, MD, Los Angeles Biomedical Research Institute lead researcher, has received a top honor for her outstanding research work, the Mayo H. Soley Award, at the 2015 Western Regional Meetings of five top research societies in the West.
