The U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved an important new inhaled antibiotic called Cayston® (aztreonam for inhalation solution) today for the treatment of cystic fibrosis. The drug was made possible by significant support from the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, including a $1 million investment by a Foundation subsidiary to help develop the therapy.
Alere Analytics, an Alere subsidiary specializing in analytics and clinical decision support technology, today announced that Chief Medical Officer and Co-founder, Dr. Fauzia Khan will be presenting a keynote on Analytics and Health IT for the Population Health Management track at the fourth national Accountable Care Organization Summit on Friday, June 14 at 9 a.m.
Scientists at Case Western Reserve University and Vanderbilt University found that pulsed light can pace contractions in an avian embryonic heart, with no apparent damage to the tissue. The work, "Optical pacing of the embryonic heart," will be published in the advanced online issue of Nature Photonics on Aug. 15, 2010.According to the scientists, this non-invasive device may prove an effective tool in understanding how environmental factors that alter an embryo's heart rate lead to congenital defects. It may also lead to investigations of cardiac electrophysiology at the cellular, tissue and organ levels, and possibly the development of a new generation of pacemakers.
CorMedix Inc., a pharmaceutical company focused on developing and commercializing therapeutic products for the prevention and treatment of Cardiorenal disease, today announced that on September 15, 2011, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration advised CorMedix, that the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research has been assigned as the lead agency for the pre-market review of Neutrolin.
