Using proton pump inhibitors and antiplatelet drugs (thienopyridines) together is an appropriate way of treating patients with cardiovascular disease who are at high risk of upper gastrointestinal bleeds, despite recent concerns about an adverse interaction between these two types of drugs, according to an Expert Consensus Document released jointly today by the American College of Cardiology Foundation, the American College of Gastroenterology, and the American Heart Association.
Governor James E. McGreevey today signed landmark legislation designed to improve patient safety and save lives through comprehensive reporting of medical errors by hospitals, nursing homes and other health care facilities.
The Food and Drug Administration, along with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service, continues to work closely with the Rhode Island Department of Health and other states in the investigation of an outbreak of Salmonella Montevideo infections associated with certain Italian-style sausage products including salami/salame.
A cellular protein whose normal function appears to suppress bone formation may be a potential new target for treating osteoporosis, suggests a collaborative study led by Weill Cornell Medicine and NewYork-Presbyterian investigators.
