As this winter continue to take many parts of the country on a temperature roller coaster ride—from seasonal bone-chilling cold to springlike warmth and then back again—many people find themselves reaching for pain relievers or other remedies to deal with runny noses and other symptoms associated with sinus and allergy problems.
Scientists at UC Santa Barbara have made a major discovery in how the brain encodes memories. The finding, published in the December 24 issue of the journal Neuron, could eventually lead to the development of new drugs to aid memory.
Researchers at Moffitt Cancer Center surveyed 1,008 physicians seeking their knowledge, recommendation beliefs and information on their practices regarding the controversial human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine, which is aimed at preventing cancers resulting from sexually transmitted HPV infection. Of the physicians surveyed, 112 provided additional comments at the conclusion of the survey.
The World Health Organization estimates 387,913 Europeans will die of lung cancer in 2018. The preliminary findings from a new study by the Economist Intelligence Unit comparing 13 countries show that governments across Europe are responding in very different ways to the disease.
