The disease atherosclerosis involves the build up of fatty tissue within arterial walls, creating unstable structures known as plaques. These plaques grow until they burst, rupturing the wall and causing the formation of a blood clot within the artery. These clots also grow until they block blood flow; in the case of the coronary artery, this can cause a heart attack.
Glenmark Pharmaceuticals today announced that its Novel Chemical Entity "Revamilast" (GRC 4039) has initiated Phase IIb human dose range finding trials globally. Revamilast is an orally active, potent and selective inhibitor of phosphodiesterase 4 (PDE 4) that is currently being developed by Glenmark for the treatment of chronic inflammatory disorders such as Asthma, Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) and other inflammatory diseases.
"North Korea announced on Wednesday that it would suspend its nuclear weapons tests and uranium enrichment and allow international inspectors to monitor activities at its main nuclear complex," a move "signaling that North Korea's new leader, Kim Jong-un, is at least willing to consider a return to negotiations and to engage with the United States, which pledged in exchange to ship tons of food aid to the isolated, impoverished nation," the New York Times reports.
Experts from the University of Granada carried out research on atherosclerosis from its earliest stages to discover the origin of atheromatous plaques, fatty deposits gradually and irregularly formed in the main arteries, causing the narrowing of the blood vessel.
