KAI Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a privately held drug discovery and development company, today announced initiation of patient enrollment in the second Phase 2 study of KAI-4169, a novel pharmaceutical agent being tested for the treatment of chronic kidney disease-mineral and bone disorder (CKD-MBD) in hemodialysis patients with secondary hyperparathyroidism (SHPT), which is a frequent and serious complication of end-stage renal disease.
The Mothers' and Toddlers' Program (MTP) broadens the focus of substance abuse treatment to encompass parent-child relationships. The MTP aids mothers to recognize their own, and subsequently their child's, emotional cues aiming to improve the emotional quality of the mother-child relationship and decrease the mother's preoccupation with drugs.
Although it is known that psychiatric disorders have a strong genetic component, untangling the web of genes contributing to each disease is a daunting task. Scientists have found hundreds of genes that are mutated in patients with disorders such as autism, but each patient usually has only a handful of these variations.
In an acute viral infection, most of the white blood cells known as T cells differentiate into cells that fight the virus and die off in the process. But a few of these "effector" T cells survive and become memory T cells, ensuring that the immune system can respond faster and stronger the next time around.
