In the first study to analyze the impact of genetic factors on multiple stages of tobacco use in both men and women, a team of researchers from Virginia Commonwealth University has found some of the strongest evidence yet for the role of genetic factors in smoking.
The new study analyses data from school aged children in Tanzania infected with the most common forms of worms. It was found that infection by one parasitic species actually changes the risk of catching another, over and above other risk factors.
OnPoint Medical Diagnostics, Inc., a privately-held Minnesota corporation, and Vertical Health Solutions, Inc., a Florida corporation, have completed a reverse merger. Pursuant to the merger agreement, OnPoint has become a wholly-owned subsidiary of Vertical Health Solutions (VHS) and shall constitute the sole business and operations of VHS.
A large cohort study has found that the strongest risk factors for atrial fibrillation in both men and women were a history of palpitations and hypertension. While hypertension is a well known risk factor for AF, the investigators note that "the impact of self-reported palpitations on later occurrence of AF has not been documented earlier".
SynCo Bio Partners today announced an extension of its successful collaboration with Versartis, Inc. following the recent initiation of a Phase 1 clinical trial in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients with monthly dosing of VRS-859. This news comes less than 12 months since the parties entered into a strategic partnership to manufacture Versartis' lead product VRS-859 (exenatide-XTEN).
