A variant of a gene involved in communication among brain cells has a direct influence on alcohol consumption in mice, according to a new study by scientists supported by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and the U.S. Army.
A team of biomedical engineers at Virginia Tech and the University of California at Berkeley has developed a new minimally invasive method of treating cancer, and they anticipate clinical trials on individuals with prostate cancer will begin soon.
Scientists at the Universitat Politécnica de València and the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid have developed a prototype sensor system which not only allows the remote detection of dangerous gases (CO, NO, NO2), but can estimate their concentration levels.
Some see ominous possibilities as 6,000 Russian troops move into Ukraine, the U.S. Sixth Fleet moves toward Crimea, and NATO troops land in Western Ukraine.
