Cancer researchers are constantly in search of more-effective and less-toxic approaches to stopping the disease, and have recently launched clinical trials testing a new class of drugs called BET inhibitors. These therapies act on a group of proteins that help regulate the expression of many genes, some of which play a role in cancer.
Researchers from the Baylor College of Medicine and Harvard Medical School have found a novel mechanism to explain the resistance of certain breast cancers that spread in the major organs of the body. They hope that this would help develop new therapeutic strategies to treat the cancer.
Vince Calhoun, Distinguished University Professor of Psychology at Georgia State University and director of the Center for Translational Research in Neuroimaging and Data Science, has received nearly $4 million from the National Institutes of Health's National Institute of Mental Health to develop new models that use brain imaging and genomic data to better predict mental health disorders
Scientists at the Center for Infection and Immunity at Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health have discovered bacteria linked to post-infectious hydrocephalus (PIH), the most common cause of pediatric hydrocephalus worldwide.
