An international team of 53 researchers has offered the most convincing evidence so far linking bipolar disorder, also known as manic depression, to two chromosomal regions in the human genome. The finding gives scientists refined targets for further gene studies.
GTx, Inc. today reported financial results for the second quarter of 2010. The net loss for the quarter ended June 30, 2010 was $12.9 million compared with a net loss of $11.3 million for the quarter ended June 30, 2009. The net loss for the second quarter of 2010 included a $1.7 million non-cash impairment charge related to the conclusion of the Phase III clinical trial of toremifene 20 mg.
This study investigated whether children whose mothers had an alcohol-related disorder would be at risk of early-life contact with the justice system, which can lead to many negative outcomes across an individual's life span.
People who use snus run twice the risk of developing alcohol dependency compared with non-users, and the more one uses snus, the higher the risk. This has been found in a study from Umeå University which was published in the journal Drug and Alcohol Dependence.
Autism Speaks, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the North American Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition (NASPGHAN) will host one of the largest gatherings of researchers, clinicians and pediatric specialists to better understand the gastrointestinal (GI) problems in children with autism spectrum disorders (ASDs).
