ZOLL Medical Corporation, a manufacturer of medical devices and related software solutions, announced today that it has been granted approval by the Japanese Pharmaceutical and Medical Devices Agency to import and distribute the AED Plus and AED Pro in Japan.
Celtic Pharmaceutical Holdings L.P., the global private equity firm focused on the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries, announced today the enrolment of the first patient into its Phase III trial of TDT 067, terbinafine in Transfersomes®, for the topical treatment of onychomycosis (also known as a fungal nail infection).
Three out of five women who have given birth to a child with a congenital heart defect (CHD) - the number-one birth defect and leading killer of infants and newborns - were never tested for the defect during pregnancy. This is according to a survey just released by Little Hearts, Inc., a national organization that provides support, education, resources, networking and hope to families affected by congenital heart defects.
Sen. Edward Kennedy (D-Mass.), who recently was diagnosed with brain cancer, previously had begun work on legislation that would revise the 1971 National Cancer Act, and supporters hope that the "fact that Kennedy has fallen victim to this disease will generate public support and lend new urgency to the need to update the bill," the AP/Chicago Tribune reports.
"As the federal government works to reform America's beleaguered health system, the State Department's new Office of Global Health Diplomacy is trying integrate the U.S. government's international health aid efforts and help governments in developing countries create sustainable health care funding and care models," Government Health IT reports, highlighting a town hall discussion with Ambassador Eric Goosby, head of the State Department's Office of Global Health Diplomacy and U.S. global AIDS coordinator, at the Kaiser Family Foundation on Thursday.
