In a sad and rather ironic situation in South Africa, where many are fighting a battle against HIV/AIDS with shortage of Anti-retrovital drugs, there is a new drug craze. South Africa has the world's largest population of HIV infected citizens - nearly 6 million.
CQDM, Brain Canada and the Ontario Brain Institute award close to $8.5M to six (6) multi-disciplinary and multi-provincial research teams across Canada to address unmet needs in neuroscience within their Focus on Brain strategic initiative. To this amount, $1.5M is added from the various research entities involved as in-kind contributions.
Immune Pharmaceuticals, Inc. announced today that it has amended its 2003 Licensing Agreement with Endo Pharmaceuticals Inc., a subsidiary of Endo International plc. As a result, Immune will transfer to Endo its previously licensed patents related to the use of topical lidocaine in acute and chronic back pain and Endo will grant Immune a royalty-free, non-exclusive, fully transferable license to those patents.
According to a recent study, intrauterine devices (IUDs) used by women for contraception might lower the risk of getting cervix cancer compared to women who do not use this form of contraception. The review titled, "Intrauterine Device Use and Cervical Cancer Risk: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis" from the Keck School of Medicine of USC appeared in the online November issue of Obstetrics & Gynecology.
Today the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) released two separate draft guidance documents to help fight the tobacco epidemic and stop children from using tobacco. The draft guidance documents implement provisions of the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act that will ultimately provide the public with previously unknown information about the chemicals in tobacco products and help prevent misleading marketing about the risks associated with tobacco products.
