The use of aspirin and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) is significantly associated with lower PSA levels, especially among men with prostate cancer, say researchers at Vanderbilt University.
New data from two RE-LY trial sub-group analyses show that dabigatran etexilate provides consistent benefits in stroke in atrial fibrillation (AF) compared to well-controlled warfarin, irrespective of whether patients use antiplatelet or other concomitant therapies, such as the anti-arrhythmics amiodarone or verapamil.
Hundreds of types of mitochondrial disease affect up to 38 million people worldwide, yet there are very few effective treatments, forcing patients and doctors to rely on symptom management to battle the serious and potentially fatal genetic disorder that starves the body's cells of energy.
A promising study from Rhode Island Hospital demonstrated that cholinesterase inhibitors, a type of medication often prescribed for Alzheimer's disease, improved some cognitive skills in patients with mild AD - skills that are necessary for driving. Findings from the study showed that after being treated with a ChEI, AD patients improved in some computerized tests of executive function and visual attention, including a simulated driving task.
Bob Kerrey, the former Nebraska governor and U.S. senator, said on Wednesday he will run for his old Senate seat, raising the hopes of Democrats that they can keep control of the chamber this election year. ... Kerrey is the Democrat's best hope of keeping the Nebraska Senate seat because he is well known and can raise money, Jennifer Duffy, a senior editor at nonpartisan Cook Political Report, told Reuters earlier in the week. But Duffy predicted that some of Kerrey's positions, including his belief "that health care reform didn't go far enough, will not be popular in Nebraska."
