How effective are we at safeguarding disabled children? An important new study which seeks to understand how to can better protect disabled children and young people from abuse starts this week.
A large, community-based study - considered the first study to assess the long-term risk of developing overweight and obesity in adults - found that over 30 years, nine out of 10 men and seven out of 10 women were overweight or became overweight. In addition, more than one in three were obese or became obese.
The discovery, reported in the May 3 issue of the journal Neuron, might one day lead to the development of drugs that induce cold sensation as an analgesic, or block it to prevent certain forms of chronic pain associated with cold sensation.
Medical identity theft is an alarming and often undetected offense affecting today's consumers, according to a recent survey conducted by The Ponemon Institute and sponsored by ProtectMyID.com™, Experian's multilayered identity theft detection, protection and fraud resolution product. According to the study, nearly 1.5 million Americans have been victims of medical identity theft. For many, the notion of identity theft is both upsetting and daunting, but few individuals realize the specific severity and potential repercussions of medical identity fraud.
A close cousin of the bacterium that debilitated thousands of World War I soldiers has been isolated at UCSF from a patient who had been on an international vacation.
