The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) has issued an urgent appeal for $543,000 to support immediate health needs in Guyana, where heavy rainfall has flooded densely populated areas, leaving thousands without shelter, food or water.
A University of Toronto (Toronto, Canada) research team, led by G. Harvey Anderson, Ph.D., just published results of a new study in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, showing that the quantity of resistant starch in foods correlates with blood glucose response and reduced food intake after two hours.
Jubilant Organosys Limited, an integrated pharmaceutical industry player and the largest Custom Research and Manufacturing Services Company in India, announced today that it is setting up Niacinamide and 3-Cyanopyridine plant of 10,000 TPA each, expected to be ready by end of 2010.
Millennium: The Takeda Oncology Company today reported the presentation of results of a randomized Phase III trial that investigated the effect of consolidation with single-agent VELCADE for Injection in newly diagnosed multiple myeloma patients after autologous stem cell transplant.
Liver toxicity is one of the main reasons pharmaceutical companies pull drugs off the market. These dangerous drugs slip through approval processes due in part to the shortcomings of liver toxicity tests. Existing tests rely on liver cells from rats, which do not always respond to toxins the way human cells do. Or they rely on dying human cells that survive for only a few days in the lab.
