NIST releases guide to help improve design of pediatric electronic health records

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has released a guide to help improve the design of electronic health records for pediatric patients so that the design focus is on the users-the doctors, nurses and other clinicians who treat children.

Encouraging interim results from daclatasvir Phase IIb study in genotype 1 and 4 HCV patients

Bristol-Myers Squibb Company today announced interim results from a Phase IIb clinical trial (COMMAND-1) of 395 treatment-naïve, genotype 1 and 4 hepatitis C infected patients in which two doses of the investigational NS5A replication complex inhibitor daclatasvir (BMS-790052), in combination with peginterferon alfa and ribavirin (alfa/RBV), achieved higher virologic response rates through Week 12 than the alfa/RBV control group, with comparable rates of adverse events.

Renin test can predict appropriate drugs for BP patients: Study

Commonly prescribed drugs used to lower blood pressure can actually have the opposite effect-raising blood pressure in a statistically significant percentage of patients. A new study by researchers at Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University suggests that doctors could avoid this problem-and select drugs most suitable for their patients-by measuring blood levels of the enzyme renin through a blood test that is becoming more widely available. The study appears in the online edition of the American Journal of Hypertension.

The study of 386 Olmsted County, Minn., residents used transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) to obtain high-quality images of the lining of the aorta, the main artery through which the heart pumps blood to the body.
