Valencia's Polytechnic University (UPV) has headed the development of a new mechanical ventilator, which is ready to be manufactured on an industrial level, in turn helping supply these devices to hospitals where they can help patients affected by COVID-19.
Ever since World War II, nerve agents have been a concern in modern warfare and up until now, the only antidotes available acted after the agents damaged the nervous system.
A new study published on the preprint server medRxiv in May 2020 reports a model that could help evolve appropriate dosage protocols for future clinical trials of the repurposed drug nitazoxanide in COVID-19 prevention and treatment. The researchers say, "It was possible to achieve plasma and lung tizoxanide concentrations, using proven safe doses of nitazoxanide, that exceed the EC90 for SARS-CoV-2."
Africare President Darius Mans announced today new investments from ExxonMobil to extend their partnership in its fight against malaria. ExxonMobil, which has long been a supporter of Africare, will fund three key malaria prevention and intervention programs in Africa.
