OSI Pharmaceuticals, Inc. announced today that it has completed enrollment in the RADIANT study, a Phase III clinical trial testing Tarceva (erlotinib) as an adjuvant therapy in patients with Stage IB-IIIA non-small cell lung cancer who have undergone surgery and have EGFR-positive tumors.
The body has a set of DNA repair enzymes that clean up damage to the genome, to reduce potential problems. Many commonly used cancer chemotherapies work by alkylating DNA. However, the DNA repair enzymes are just as capable of repairing this alkylation as if it were damage from any other source, and so they act to overcome the effects of the therapy, reducing its effectiveness.
National guidelines assume that all patients who're diagnosed with clinical sepsis in an emergency department will be admitted to the hospital for additional care, but new research has found that many more patients are being treated and released from the ED for outpatient follow-up than previously recognized.
Simoctocog alfa (trade name Nuwiq) has been approved since July 2014 for people with type A haemophilia, an inherited disorder that impairs blood clotting. The German Institute for Quality and Efficiency in Health Care examined in a dossier assessment whether this new drug offers an added benefit over the appropriate comparator therapy. Such an added benefit cannot be derived from the dossier, however, because the drug manufacturer did not submit any suitable data.
