("Gamida Cell") through the Gamida-Teva Joint Venture (JV), announced today that the Data Monitoring Committee ("DMC") has independently reviewed preliminary data from the pivotal registration, Phase III clinical trial of StemEx (called ExCell) and has recommended that the JV continue to enroll patients in this study.

Tofacitinib safe and effective for patients with rheumatoid arthritis

Results of a Phase III study presented today at the EULAR 2011 Annual Congress show that at 6 months, 58.3 percent of patients who had previously not responded to treatment with DMARDs, achieved ACR20 response when treated with the novel oral Janus kinase inhibitor tofacitinib at 10mg BID compared to 31.2 percent in the placebo group. Significant improvements were also observed in the 5 mg BID dose.

Study finds link between long-term exposure to childhood poverty and obesity rates among young adults

A new study from the University of Houston Department of Health and Human Performance finds childhood poverty reaches into the lives of white, Hispanic and African-American young adult women, contributing to their propensity to be overweight and obese.

New approaches may increase effectiveness of SCS for severe back pain

New approaches to electrical stimulation—using an implanted device with three columns of electrodes—may increase the effectiveness of spinal cord stimulation (SCS) for severe back pain, suggests a study in the March issue of Neurosurgery, official journal of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons.
