Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., the world leader in serving science, introduced three breakthrough instruments that take mass spectrometry (MS) analysis to new levels of performance in resolution, speed, sensitivity and accuracy. The new instruments were unveiled at the 59th Annual ASMS Conference on Mass Spectrometry and Allied Topics, being held June 5-9 at the Colorado Convention Center.
In remarks at the Africa Health Forum on Friday in Washington, D.C., Deputy Secretary of State William Burns discussed the evolution of foreign assistance and cooperation "from a donor-recipient relationship to more of a partnership," according to a speech transcript provided by the U.S. State Department.
The Spanish flu outbreak of 1918 killed between 30 and 50 million people. In the infected patients, the ultimate cause of death was acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). This fatal condition is a massive reaction of the body during which the lung becomes severely damaged. ARDS can be induced by various bacterial and viral infections, but also by chemical agents.
It's inappropriate to consider blanket do-not-resuscitate orders for COVID-19 patients because adequate data is not yet available on U.S. survival rates for in-hospital resuscitation of COVID-19 patients and data from China may not relate to U.S. patients, according to a new article published today in Circulation: Cardiovascular Quality and Outcomes, an American Heart Association journal.
