By measuring the total gene activity in organs relevant for coronary artery disease (CAD), scientists at the Swedish medical university Karolinska Institutet have identified a module of genes that is important for the recruitment of white blood cells into the atherosclerotic plaque.
A woman coping with the burden of familial breast cancer can't help but wonder if her young daughter will suffer the same fate. Has she inherited the same disease-causing mutation? Is it best to be prepared for the future, or to wait? During the last decade, genetic tests have been through a sea change, both in their availability and the technologies behind them. Today there are at least 34 companies that offer direct to consumer (DTC) DNA testing, some of which return health results. And now it is possible to sequence someone's entire genetic code for the price of a laptop.
Trubion Pharmaceuticals, Inc. today announced the acceptance of two Phase 1 data presentations on SBI-087 (PF-05230895) at the 2010 annual congress of the European League Against Rheumatism (EULAR) in Rome, Italy. Presentations will include promising data from a Phase 1 study of SBI-087 for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and a Phase 1 study of SBI-087 for the treatment of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Copies of both abstracts are available at http://www.eular.org. SBI-087 is Trubion's next-generation CD20-directed small modular immunopharmaceutical (SMIP™) product candidate and is being developed in collaboration with Pfizer.
