Allergic reactions can occur without being triggered by an allergen such as grass or birch pollen - it is enough for the patient to be back in the same place in which he or she was previously exposed to the allergen, as researchers at the University of Tübingen have found.
In a Lancet opinion piece, the journal's editor-in-chief Richard Horton writes about "[w]hy governments should take health more seriously," stating, "The purpose of government is to uphold the dignity of its people.
Myelofibrosis is a severe and very rare hematological disease for which treatment has only been partially effective to date. Its low incidence rate is one of the reasons why effective therapies are still lacking.
Events that take place early in life almost certainly have consequences for later cognitive development. Establishing the connections is difficult, however, because human infants cannot be used as laboratory subjects. Rodney Johnson and his collaborators have developed an alternative model for studying infant brain development. "Assistant professor Ryan Dilger and I became interested in establishing the neonatal piglet as a model of human brain and cognitive development 3 or 4 years ago," he said.
