Four scientists from The Scripps Research Institute (TSRI) have been named fellows of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). Palatin Technologies, Inc., announced today that it has received $978,000 in grants under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 (PPACA), with $847,000 available immediately and $131,000 available no later than 30 days after Palatin's fiscal year ending June 30, 2011.
Current industry practices for large-scale mammalian cell cultures typically employ a standard platform fed-batch process with fixed volume bolus feeding. Although widely used, these processes are unable to respond to actual nutrient consumption demands from the culture, which can result in accumulation of by-products and depletion of certain nutrients.
According to a new study published this week in the journal Pediatrics, quite a few breast feeding women are not abstaining from alcohol and are thus causing exposure of their babies to alcohol. They write in their study that children who are exposed to alcohol in the breast milk that they take are likely to have lower cognitive abilities.
For those soldiers worried about the stigma associated with seeing a therapist, virtual reality applications for the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) may be the alternative to the traditional "talk therapy."
