The likelihood of developing bipolar disorder depends in part on the combined, small effects of variations in many different genes in the brain, none of which is powerful enough to cause the disease by itself, a new study shows.
A study led by Karolinska Institutet in Sweden reports for the first time the positive effects of an active vaccine against Alzheimer's disease. The new vaccine, CAD106, can prove a breakthrough in the search for a cure for this seriously debilitating dementia disease. The study is published in the distinguished scientific journal Lancet Neurology.
The scientific programme for this year's ESC Congress, which will take place in Paris from 27-31 August, is now complete and promises to provide journalists with a rich source of front-page news stories and background for topical features.
Eisai Inc., in coordination with the Alzheimer's Association, calls on individuals with Alzheimer's disease and their caregivers across America to nominate local pharmacists for the 2010 C.A.R.E. Pharmacy Award. This award recognizes the vital role that pharmacists play in helping the estimated 5.3 million Americans living with Alzheimer's disease and their almost 11 million caregivers.
