Flawed health care bill must be improved, says National Partnership for Women & Families

The following is a statement of Debra L. Ness, President, National Partnership for Women & Families:"The Senate took a historic step to fix our nation's broken health care system this morning by passing comprehensive reform that will cover 31 million more people, prohibit insurance practices that undermine meaningful, affordable coverage, help contain costs, and put us on track to improve the quality and coordination of care. 56 healthy, full-term babies were monitored for three consecutive days at six, nine and twelve weeks' old. Parents were supplied with an environmental light monitor attached to a small teddy bear with Velcro fastenings, so that it could be attached to a pram handle or cot or placed near the baby.

Chances for small-bore budget deal said to improve

Despite a polarized Congress, The Associated Press reports that the prospects for a modest, end-of-year budget deal are looking up. Neither party would achieve its biggest priority with such an agreement, however.
