Cytochroma Inc. announced that the lawsuit filed in August 2006 by Genzyme Corporation in the United States District Court, Western District of Wisconsin has been settled by the parties.
Scientists have overcome a key barrier to the clinical use of stem cells with a technique which transforms regular body cells into artificial stem cells without the need for introducing foreign genetic materials, which could be potentially harmful. The research, published in STEM CELLS, suggests that cells taken from a patient's eye can be "reprogrammed" to replace or restore cells lost to degenerative diseases.
"Two more children have died in Cambodia of bird flu, bringing the number of fatal cases this year to four and the number of cases overall to five," the Associated Press/Wall Street Journal reports, noting only three cases were reported in all of 2012. "WHO says bird flu, also known as avian influenza, or H5N1, has killed 360 other people worldwide since surfacing in 2003," with most cases "linked to contact with infected poultry," the news agency writes.
A major deal in the substance abuse recovery industry will mean new treatment options for people struggling with addiction. Origins Behavioral Healthcare and Caron Treatment Centers announced today an agreement in which Origins will acquire two addiction treatment centers owned and operated by Caron: Hanley Center in West Palm Beach and Gate Lodge in Vero Beach, Fla.
