Canadians face wait times of over 460 days in order to get access to new, potentially lifesaving medicines in public drug plans, according to a new IMS Brogan report commissioned by Rx&D. Overall, the report ranks Canada 16 out of 18 similar OECD countries.
Alcohol is one of the most commonly abused substances, and men are up to twice as likely to develop alcoholism as women. Until now, the underlying biology contributing to this difference in vulnerability has remained unclear.
High concentrations of serum long-chain omega-3 fatty acids may help reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes, according to a University of Eastern Finland study published recently in Diabetes Care. The sources of these fatty acids are fish and fish oils.
Through a unique combination of computer simulations and laboratory experiments, researchers at the Paul Scherrer Institute PSI have discovered new binding sites for active agents - against cancer, for example - on a vital protein of the cell cytoskeleton. Eleven of the sites hadn't been known before. The study appears today in the journal Angewandte Chemie International Edition.
Scientists today urged people with atrial fibrillation - the most common heart rhythm disorder - to kick the habit and cut their stroke risk. The research is presented today at ESC Congress 2020.1
