Cypher Genomics, Inc., a leading genome informatics company, today announced a collaboration with Celgene Corporation to apply Cypher's Coral technology to discover novel genomic biomarkers that associate with patient response to innovative medicines.
Dogs, known for their extraordinarily keen senses of smell, can be trained to use their sensitive sniffers to find drugs, bombs, bed bugs, missing hikers and even cancer. Among dogs and other animals that rely on smell, at least one factor that may give them an advantage is a sheet of tissue in the nasal cavity.
Research Councils UK (RCUK) welcomed the recommendations made in the NAO's Value for Money study of the project to establish the RCUK Shared Service Centre. We thank the NAO for endorsing, through their recommendations, the approach that the Research Councils are already taking to ensure that the SSC's service matures quickly.
Early life exposure to normal bacteria of the GI tract (gut microbes) protects against autoimmune disease in mice, according to research published on-line in the January 17 edition of Science. The study may also have uncovered reasons why females are at greater risk of autoimmune diseases such as multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, and lupus compared to males.
