Up to 10% of patients who are hospitalized or undergo surgery will experience acute kidney injury, and as many as 50% of patients in intensive care units will meet the criteria for AKI, the National Kidney Foundation has determined. Some of these patients will progress to kidney failure within months.
DENTSPLY International Inc. announced that it has entered into a strategic partnership with DIO Corporation, based in Busan, South Korea. DIO operations include a state-of-the art manufacturing facility in Busan, producing dental implant devices and associated accessories, which are marketed in numerous countries including many emerging markets.
Violent deaths are outpacing traditional causes of maternal mortality, such as hemorrhage and preeclampsia, and conflicts with intimate partner are often a factor, researchers report.
The CMS' Medicare fee-for-service recovery audit contractor program collected about $233.4 million in overpayments from March through June of this year, bringing the total of recouped overpayments since October 2009 to about $575.2 million.
The findings, published as the cover study in the latest issue of Virology, show that proteins in neurons fight the virus at multiple stages - by preventing the formation of viral RNA and proteins, and blocking the virus' release, which could infect other cells in the brain.
