When you pass by a stranger in need of help, do you stop to lend a hand? Maybe not... A landmark 1973 study found that seminary students in a hurry were less likely to help someone in distress, even when they were on their way to deliver a talk on the Parable of the Good Samaritan.
"Basic science plays a critical role in the quest to improve global health, but it's only one part of a multi-pronged effort that includes changing the dynamics of global health so that developing nations have a more leading role in fulfilling their health care needs," a panel of experts concluded at the 2012 Kavli Prize Science Forum in Oslo, Norway, held this week, according to a Kavli Foundation press release.
In diseases such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), the body produces too much mucus, making breathing difficult. New research from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis provides clues to potentially counteract inappropriate mucus production.
Stephen Hicks, Chairman and CEO, of Southridge LLC and Patrick S. Smith, President and Chief Executive Officer of Curaxis Pharmaceutical Corp , jointly announced a $25 million equity purchase agreement with Southridge Partners II, an institutional investor.
Scottsdale Healthcare Shea Medical Center is the first hospital in the southwestern United States to implant an MRI-safe pacemaker, a major technological breakthrough for patients who need MRI diagnostic scans, which can damage older style pacemakers or cause serious health complications.
