A UCSF study holds clues to why an emerging clinical trials option for heart attack patients has not been as successful as anticipated. Treatment of human hearts with bone marrow cells has led to limited to no success in improving their heart function even though a similar method has been much more effective in rodents.
Investigators from the Boston University's Slone Epidemiology Center have reported findings that may shed light on why African American women have a disproportionately higher risk of developing more aggressive and difficult-to-treat breast cancers, specifically estrogen and progesterone receptor negative (ER-/PR-) cancers.
Staff members in 17 nursing homes in downstate New York are being trained in the use of new, hand-held wireless computers for record keeping that will send patient information directly to a central server, where doctors, pharmacies, rehabilitation specialists and others treating residents will be able to access it easily and quickly.
Earlier this year, data was released by the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) that detailed the rise in male plastic surgery procedures. The overall conclusion was that male procedures had risen 43 percent in the past 5 years.
Advaxis, Inc., the live, attenuated Listeria monocytogenes (Listeria) immunotherapy company has developing a long-term, room temperature, storage-stable form of its vaccines. This would replace the current requirement to keep the product frozen at -70o C before use.
