The University of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System has been recognized for its advanced adoption of electronic medical records technology by the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society, and is now among the 10 percent of U.S. hospitals with paperless patient records.
The Partnership for Quality Home Healthcare — a coalition of home health providers dedicated to improving the integrity, quality, and efficiency of home healthcare for our nation's seniors — today commended the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services for stopping the planned implementation of a Pre-Claim Review Demonstration in Florida, which would have applied new, mandatory regulatory requirements on all home health agenciesoperating across the state on April 1.
Consumer groups in the U.S. are demanding more comprehensive testing of beef after the government yesterday confirmed the second case of mad cow disease.
Malignant gliomas are fast-growing brain tumours with poor prospects of recovery depending on disease stage. Experts hope that the examination of patients by means of positron emission tomography (PET) is more helpful in the choice of the right treatment than other procedures. In a final report the German Institute for Quality and Efficiency in Health Care (IQWiG) has now investigated the benefit of PET in the detection of recurrences. According to this report, no robust conclusions are possible on the advantages or disadvantages of PET.
